Google says that the majority of its employees will work from home until 2021
Two big Tech Giants have released a statement regarding their working ethics in the time of coronavirus. They have given employees the flexibility of Working From Home till the end of this year whose work can be done from their places only.
Earlier, Google announced Work From Home terms till 1st June, but now they have extended till the end of the year looking at the situation of the pandemic in the country. Coincidently, announcements for Work From Home policies came at the same point in time.
Both Facebook and Google believe that they will reopen the offices from July once the lockdown is gradually lifted in the country. Google didn’t provide any specific date for the reopening of the offices, but Facebook is almost ready to reopen the offices from 6th July. The big tech giants are formulating strategies to tackle the coronavirus situation as they are suffering many losses due to the coronavirus.
According to Google’s CEO, Mr. Sundar Pichai, employees will have the flexibility to work from home until the year’s end and employees who need to come back to the office, they will be able to return from July. The company will take additional safety precautions once the office reopens in July.
Facebook is also on the same boat, and they are identifying the employees who need to return to offices by 6th July. They have also enabled the Work From Home option until the year-end for which they are giving bonuses of $1000 for child care and WFH costs. More strategies are being rolled out by Facebook for the completion of their operations.
The Social Media platform has also canceled all their physical meetings/workshops until June 2021. It includes the major workshop of Oculus Connect 7- a Virtual Reality conference. Besides that, Mark Zuckerberg said that all the events would take place Virtually through online mode of meetings. More details about the games will be rolled out pretty soon.
Like other companies, Facebook and Google are facing losses too in the pandemic. To meet the challenges, strategies are being formulated by the stakeholders.
Eventually, Work from Home will help companies to get some time to redesign their offices to follow the social distancing guidelines in the future. It will be interesting to Watch out how big firms redesign their business models after the lockdown lifts in the country.
